High Adventure Trip Ideas

 

• Hike Indian Peaks Wilderness, Brainard Lake to Red River Lake
  3 to 5 day hike, depending on how big a loop we want, or how fast or slow we hike.
  Transportation: approximately 1 hour from Boulder.
  
  Approximate cost per person:
  Ground transportation: $5 for gas
  Food: $50
  Total cost: $55
  (This assumes the scouts have backpacks, sleeping bags, hiking boots).
  
  
•   Continental Divide Trail Hike
  
  
•   Durango Silverton RR, San Juan Mountains, Chicago Basin
  5 day hike, plus 2 days travel, total 7 days. Travel is by car, approximately 7 hours each way.
  
  Approximate cost/person:
  Travel: $20 gas
  Lodging in Durango: $50/person, for 2 nights = $100
  Or alternatively, find a campground: $10/person, for 2 nights = $20 Durango Silverton train = $80/person, RT
  Food: $50
  Total Cost (assume camping): $170
  
  
•   Forest Service Hut Hikes
  
  
• 3 Day, 2 night Snowshoe Trip
  to Shrine Mountain Inn. Alternative huts are available.
  These huts are run by the 10th Mountain Division; there are 30 huts in Colorado.

  Transportation time from Boulder: approximately 3 hours, by car. Approximate Costs per person: Transportation: gas $10
  Cost of stay at hut: $50/night.
  Food: $20 Snowshoes: rental if necessary, $20/day
  Total cost/person, for 3 days: $170
  
  10th Mountain Division Hut Association membership is necessary: $25/year, for the group (not per person).
  
  Ability to get a reservation is on a lottery basis, and requires membership in the 10th Mountain Division Hut Association.
